:Technology · Lacing systems

All lacing systems are not the same and an apparently insignificant difference can make a major difference in the levels of comfort. For example the distance between the D-rings on mountain styles is greater to avoid that snow being trapped between the laces and also so that the boot can be tightened whilst wearing gloves.
On higher legged styles the lacing must support the ankle inhibiting natural movement.

Velcro

Part of the lacing system on some styles is a Velcro pad which keeps the tongue in place during lacing and maintains its position correctly whilst walking.
A Velcro strap is also used on some of the higher styles to hold a lace cover flap in place and also to enable the boot to be used without fastening all the laces.

Rings and hooks

The strongest form of lacing uses corrosion free, burnished brass D-rings along the foot section which holds the laces in position and then hooks on the ankle for easy tightening. An added washer behind the D-ring and hooks ensure waterproofness.
The rings and the hooks are of 3 part construction for added strength and these are double riveted into position.

Laces

Synthetic laces with water repellent treatment avoid water absorption, guaranteeing fast drying. On technical styles the section is round to increase the friction and avoid the clogging of snow or mud.
